Do you have a passion for rivers? Join the Biodiversity and Geomorphology team as a Geomorphologist in Hertfordshire and North London! Your expert advice will help to promote nature-based solutions that make our environment healthier, more sustainable, climate change resilient - all while striving to meet legislative (e.g Water Framework Directive); policy objectives of 25 Year Environment Plan. Through your input into various projects with operational staff, we endeavour to prevent or minimise any ecological impacts within the water environment resulting in measurable positive environmental outcomes.

Be an active force in the organisation, connecting with colleagues from within and outside. Form bonds of trust reliably and efficiently to facilitate successful results. It is important that you keep up to date with the latest geomorphological standards and techniques. You will be able to pursue and develop in areas that you are passionate about, whilst also meeting the requirements of the day to day role.

Where you will work 

Join the highly knowledgeable and supportive HNL Biodiversity & Geomorphology team. Our interdisciplinary collaborations with external partners provide stimulating opportunities to pursue planning, development, restoration projects. Work alongside engineers in flood and coastal risk management as well as asset performance experts - a rewarding experience that provides opportunity to develop your skillset.

Our Welwyn Garden City base location has a hybrid model allowing individuals to work either at home or at our office (a minimum number of days in the office per week will be agreed with your line manager and will be dependent on business needs and reviewed periodically).

What do you need

• Sound technical knowledge: you’ll know about rivers, what fluvial geomorphology is and why it matters.
• A relevant degree and/or practical experience related to fluvial geomorphology.
• To be able build trusted working relationships and communicate clearly, in order to guide and to influence what people do.
• To be open to innovative ways of working, especially new opportunities to work with nature.
• Knowledge of current environmental challenges/techniques.

You may also have some of the following: technical geomorphology skills in fieldwork, GIS or environmental modelling; experience or knowledge about current environmental challenges and topics such as Environmental Land Management; experience of managing coastal or fluvial flood risk; experience of river and floodplain restoration.

You will need to hold a full UK driving license.
