Reports to: Marine Analyst
Position Based in: Vancouver, B.C.
Contract Term: 35 hours/week for 16 weeks
Starting Date: May 4, 2009
Salary: $15 – $18 per hour depending on experience

Specific Responsibilities include:
  • Update and prepare GIS based maps that support Living Oceans Society’s campaigns and projects.
  • Produce presentation quality maps, for web and/or print.
  • Research potential data sources, request and/or retrieve spatial data from repositories.
  • Prepare GIS metadata.
  • Perform regular back-ups.
  • Catalogue existing reference materials.
Qualifications:
  • Educational/Technical Requirements
  • Some training in Geographic Information Systems, especially ESRI products, is required.
  • Clearly demonstrated basic skills in ArcView.
  • Experience with ArcInfo, Spatial Analyst, or 3D Analyst are assets.
  • Interest and/or post secondary education in science; Geography/Biology/Ecology/Environmental Studies is preferred.
  • Ability to take direction, organize your day-to-day tasks, meet deadlines and work effectively as part of a team.
