Description

Stump Up For Trees is a dynamic, community-based woodland creation and landscape restoration charity based in the Brecon Beacons area of south-east Wales. Our vision is to engage our community of landowners, volunteers and local businesses in improving the treescape and enhancing biodiversity across our region. We raise funds in innovative ways in order to give grants to landowners to plant trees on land that is unproductive in agricultural terms and poor in biodiversity.

We are looking to recruit a General Manager to run the Stump Up For Trees office. The position of General Manager is a new role to add value to the charity and bring organisational skills to allow the charity to grow. This role would suit someone who is highly organised with lots of initiative, varied office management experience and great communication skills. The postholder will work with the Trustees and other members of our small team to develop and implement a strategy to support the varied work of Stump Up For Trees. 

We welcome applications from people from all groups and communities. The post is advertised as a full-time position, however there is scope to discuss hours and remuneration. Work will be at our office in Abergavenny two days per week minimum; remote working is welcomed for the rest of the time.

What you’ll do

  • Liaise effectively with landowners to ensure woodland creation projects are delivered to a high standard;
  • Draft and revise project documents;
  • Help develop a Sponsorship and Funding Strategy, and draft funding applications;
  • Organise documents and files;
  • Communicate with and provide managerial support to the trustees;
  • Organise and attend meetings of the trustees and the Management Committee;
  • Coordinate landowner enquiries and liaise with woodland creation officer(s);
  • Deal with landowner agreements, grant offers and payments;
  • Organise volunteer events / coordinate with volunteer leaders;
  • Keep Airtable up to date;
  • Keep website up to date;
  • Write, coordinate and disseminate internal and external newsletters;
  • Coordinate material for monitoring audiences on social media;
  • Liaise with Operations Manager during the tree planting season.

You’ll bring

  • Education to degree level or equivalent experience;
  • Capable of working independently, and also suited to coordinating and leading a small team;
  • Interest in the environment, and the future management of the landscape;
  • Keen attention to detail;
  • Critical thinking & ability to make decisions quickly when needed;
  • Solid IT skills, and ability to learn new software (Airtable, MS Office);
  • Ability to prioritise and manage competing priorities, in order to deliver to deadlines;
  • Space and tech to be able to work effectively from home as required (solid broadband a must!);
  • Knowledge about environmental policy and organisations across the UK and specifically in Wales;
  • A clean driving licence and own transport;
  • A collaborative approach.

We’ll provide

  • A salary £32k - £35k pa (experience dependent);
  • Some flexibility over standard working hours 09:00-17:00 Mon-Fri (37.5 hrs in total);
  • 28 days annual leave (incl. Public Holidays);
