Continental Forests is a Ugandan public company managing forest operations in Western Uganda.

To improve the strength of our management team we look for a

 

General Manager

With reference to the group CEO and the BoD, you will be overall responsible for the co-ordination and development of the Uganda operation. You will ensure continued profitable operations and a constant positive development in productivity and defined key performance indicators. Duties and responsibilities involve overseeing organizational development and providing leadership that inspires and motivates the company's highly skilled workforce, which today include a team of 10 foresters, economists and social scientist as well as worker and support staff.

You are an accomplished communicator; you excel at building strong relationships with clients and business partners.

Your exemplary leadership skills include timely and on-going communication at all levels within the company, from senior management to the forest camp. With your strong interpersonal skills, you are an expert at team-building and acting as a mentor for the next generation of managers who will play a role in the organization's future.

 

The management structure of Continental Forests revolves around the four key operational areas of Forest Management, Public Relations, Production and Sales (currently in planning phase) and Finance and Budgeting. The managers of each of these areas report directly to the General Manager.

 

The General Manager's overall responsibilities include:

-          Provide management direction and oversight for forest operations, public relations, administration as well as finished product operations.

-          Lead efforts in developing, tracking and reconciling monthly, quarterly and annual operating budgets and work-plans.

-          Provide oversight in all aspects of forest management to including FSC and CarbonFix compliance.

-          Provide oversight in community and society relations issues and proactively manage existing and potential public relations issues.

-          Provide oversight in all aspects of establishment and execution of finished product operations.

-          Ensure compliance with all international, federal and local laws.

 

Your abilities and qualifications:

 

-          Degree from a reputable organisation (e.g. MBA)

-          Proven track record of managing international organisation either developmental or commercial totalling to at least 10 years of work experience ideally in an Ugandan or East African context.

-          Proven strong self motivation and self management.

-          Proven track record of people and team development, influence management and negotiating capabilities.

-          Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to identify cost-savings and implement continuous improvement.

-          Excellent reporting and information management skills. ·

-          Excellent business and financial management and budgeting skills.

-          Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English. Knowledge of local languages is a plus.

-          Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources development, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

-          Proficiency or strong interest in silviculture; including associated management cost and budget oversight.

-          A passion for advancing sustainable forest management in Uganda.

-          Willingness to life and work upcountry Uganda (app. 30 km East of Hoima)
