Description

Galapagos Site Manager

Operation Wallacea is a network of academics from European and North American universities, who design and implement biodiversity and conservation management research programmes across 15 research sites worldwide.

We are currently recruiting a competent manager to coordinate the operations at our Galapagos site. The contracted dates for the position will run from 11th June to 13th August. The role will involve working closely with local staff and partners as well as overseeing the delivery of Operation Wallacea’s Galapagos expedition programme. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the site including, but not limited to; completing audits against risk assessments, creating and updating activity schedules, managing other staff and maintaining regular contact with the UK office.

The programme involves teaching school students aged 16-18. There will be times when you are required to deliver lectures and lead workshops on Galapagos island ecology so previous experience on the Galapagos is desirable and a biological background is essential.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in the field with good communication and organisational skills. Part of the role involves a diving component so a minimum qualification of PADI open water (or equivalent) and an understanding of dive operations is required. The successful candidate will have experience managing people and projects of a similar nature. As you will be coordinating with local staff and partners, the ability to speak Spanish to conversational level is highly desirable. Previous experience of an Operation Wallacea expedition will also be extremely beneficial.

In return, the successful applicant will receive full accommodation and food onsite, potential current and future research opportunities, networking and skills development. As this is a senior position with Operation Wallacea, there will be a full flight bursary available and a stipend which is dependent on experience.

If you would like to apply for the position of Galapagos Site Manager, please fill in our online application form at http://jobs.opwall.com/job/galapagos-site-manager/ The deadlines for applications is 14th April with interviews happening via Skype shortly after that.
