SOS UK promotes awareness of the plight of the Sumatran orangutan, raises funds to support project activities in reducing the threat to their habitat, and is the headquarters of the global network of SOS branches which are working together for a brighter future for the orangutans, communities and forests of Sumatra.
The Fundraising and Outreach Officer will play a strategic role in the organisation and be part of a small team. The position will include the following responsibilities and activities:
Fundraising - maximise fundraising for SOS; Develop strategies to increase unrestricted income and donations; Organise fundraising events and represent SOS with stalls at external events; Administer membership scheme, and donor processing; Recruit more supporters through the membership scheme, monthly donations, and individual fundraising, particularly sponsored challenges; Manage our online shop, including keeping a stock inventory, developing new product lines, and processing orders; Assist in the development of new individual, foundation and corporate donor relationships; Manage Justgiving site, providing one to one support to fundraisers; Promote and develop online auctions as a fundraising tool; Continue to develop SOS’ suite of fundraising materials to support and inspire both adult and junior fundraisers. Outreach and Communication – create wider understanding of SOS mission; Represent SOS at events, promoting the organisation and our cause; Compile information and content for the website; Manage social networking, including blogging, Facebook, and Twitter; Produce resources to support our campaigns e.g. unsustainable palm oil, biofuels, illegal trade; Contribute to the bi-annual SOS JungleVine newsletter and regular eNewsletter; Identify media opportunities linked to events; Provide one to one support for fundraisers and supporters. Support global SOS activities Support our partners, particularly the Orangutan Information Centre in Sumatra; Coordinate volunteer activities; Manage and develop relations with supporters and volunteers to establish a sustainable support network for SOS campaigns and events; Various administrative tasks. e.g. Manage mailing lists and contacts database.
General Information: The post is initially offered for a 6 month term, with the potential to extend into a permanent position. We are seeking a creative individual with demonstrable fundraising experience. Candidates should be capable of multitasking, working unsupervised, and show good attention to detail. Good social, managerial and communication skills are essential. Hours of work will be 9.30 – 5.30pm Monday – Friday, with some evening and weekend work; we will also consider more flexible or part-time working arrangements.
