Fundraising and Development Internship

About the Physicians Committee

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is a nonprofit health organization dedicated to saving and improving lives through good nutrition, advanced medical research, and public policy advocacy. Our vision is to create a healthier world through a new emphasis on disease prevention, plant-based nutrition, and scientific research conducted ethically, without using animals. We invite you to visit our YouTube channel, our website, and Physicians Committee president Dr. Neal Barnard’s blog.

About this Internship Opportunity

The Physicians Committee’s Development team is responsible for generating the funds needed for the organization to carry out its lifesaving work and move its mission forward. The Development team also provides communication to supporters to keep them apprised and engaged regarding the impact of their donations.

If you are a student or recent graduate who would like to have a real world impact on issues relating to modernizing medicine and research, while learning the art and science of fundraising, then consider applying for this unique opportunity to work with an organization at the forefront of the movements to promote plant-based nutrition and to promote alternatives to the use of animals in medicine and science.

The Fundraising and Development Intern will assist with various development activities, including the communications strategy for donor outreach, prospect research in support of major gifts campaigns and special events, fundraising campaign coordination, identifying fundraising trends, and assisting with donor stewardship.

The Fundraising and Development Intern will be mentored by our talented development team, including the Vice -President of Development and the Director of Annual Giving. Interns may also have the opportunity to participate in campaign events, staff education sessions, scientific journal article discussions, Capitol Hill briefings, and other Physicians Committee activities. All interns will receive a full-day orientation at the start of their internship and ongoing support from their staff mentor.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have an interest in fundraising
  • Excellent communication, research, writing, and problem solving skills
  • Applicants should be detail-oriented and have strong time management skills
  • Enthusiasm for the Physicians Committee’s mission to promote plant-based diets and scientific research conducted ethically, without using animals

Terms: The Physicians Committee is located in the Metro-accessible Friendship Heights neighborhood in Washington, D.C. This unpaid volunteer internship is not available as employment.
