POSITION Fundraising and Communications Manager

LOCATION Pacific Partnership Secretariat, Suva, Fiji 

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced person for the position of Fundraising and Communications Manager with the BirdLife International Pacific Partnership Secretariat in Suva, Fiji. The main purpose of the job is to manage fundraising activities supporting the BirdLife Pacific Regional Plan 2013-2020 as well as managing the Secretariat’s communication requirements.

BirdLife is the world’s largest Partnership of national, non-governmental, conservation organisations, with a presence in 117 countries and territories. BirdLife works to improve biodiversity conservation through a network of national, non-governmental Partner NGOs driven by a programme of research, advocacy, action, institutional development and training, focusing on conservation programmes dealing with Preventing Extinctions, Seabirds and Marine, Migratory Birds and Flyways, Important Bird Areas, Climate Change, Local Empowerment, Capacity Development and Invasive Species Management.

 

BIRDLIFE PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP

The BirdLife network in the Pacific comprises BirdLife Australia (Australia), Te Ipukarea Society (Cook Islands), Société d'Ornithologie de Polynésie (French Polynesia), Société Calédonienne d'Ornithologie (New Caledonia), Royal Forest & Bird Protection Society (New Zealand), Palau Conservation Society (Palau) and NatureFiji-MarqetiViti (Fiji), supported by a Regional Secretariat for the Pacific based in Fiji and a global headquarters in the UK. 

 

THE ROLE

The Fundraising and Communications Manager is responsible for coordinating fundraising activities for the Pacific Partnership to support the implementation of the Pacific Regional Plan 2013-2020. This requires working with programme managers to match priority needs with funding opportunities and ensure that high-quality proposals are developed and submitted so that funds are secured. An important part of the role is seeking-out and maintaining donor relationships, supporting the development of Partners’ fundraising strategies and developing fundraising capacity within the Pacific Partnership. 

The position also manages the communications activities of the Pacific Secretariat,  including coordinating and producing news stories and press releases, managing web-content and securing volunteers to support delivery of conservation needs.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate successful fundraising experience; understanding of conservation, development and political issues; a flair for diplomacy, communications, networking and problem-solving; understanding of and experience working with NGOs; be highly-organized with proven ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines; have excellent written and oral communication and networking skills; at least a first tertiary degree in a relevant discipline; facility in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and internet use; and willingness to travel and work long hours. Desirable attributes that will be considered favourably are relevant experience in the Pacific islands region; knowledge of BirdLife and its structures; French language abilities; at least five years' relevant experience in international conservation with a background in institutional, individual and corporate fundraising; experience working with partners, communities or national teams in training and capacity-building, particularly in the Pacific region or in a small islands environment. REMUNERATION

Salary will be in the range FJD 55,000 – FJD 68,000 depending on qualifications and experience. For an appointee from outside Fiji, certain expatriate benefits will apply. Terms and conditions of employment will be discussed with shortlisted applicants.
