Description

The ICCT has an internship opportunity in its San Francisco office to work in our fuels program. This position will be attractive for students and researchers with interests in the oil industry and the environment. We expect that applicants will have a first degree in a technical discipline such as engineering, environmental science, economics, physics or mathematics, although comparable experience will be considered, as will applications from exceptional undergraduates. Preference will be given to students with, or working towards, postgraduate qualifications. The successful applicant will work on one or more projects focused on reducing the carbon intensity of fossil fuel production. An outline for the main project for the internship will be developed, in partnership with the successful applicant, in one of the following areas:

  • Assessment of the potential for greenhouse gas emissions savings from reducing natural gas flaring;
  • Analysis of the impacts of oil depletion on greenhouse emissions in oil extraction processes;
  • Analysis of the cost effectiveness of opportunities to reduce oil extraction emissions.

Our Fuels Program is also actively engaged in the development of policies to promote the use of alternative fuels in transport. The successful applicant may also be asked to contribute to other projects that work toward the broader mission of the ICCT. This unique ICCT internship position provides an excellent opportunity for an early-career researcher to learn about opportunities to reduce emissions from the oil industry and about how to work in a dynamic, policy-oriented setting.

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and writing skills are required
  • Advanced experience with MS Excel, and proficiency with MS Word and PowerPoint, are required
