EOS Ecology provides industry-leading expertise in surface water ecology within freshwater and estuary environments. Based in Christchurch and working throughout New Zealand, our scientists and technicians have been helping government-based organisations, consultants and industry since 2001.

We are seeking a passionate Freshwater Technician. This permanent full-time position will contribute significantly to our laboratory and field programmes, requiring you to draw on your attention to detail, and enthusiam for aquatic environments.

To be successful you will need:

  • Passion for invertebrate taxonomy;
  • Experience in identifying NZ freshwater invertebrates;
  • Familiarity with NZ's standard freshwater invertebrate sample processing protocols;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct scientific field surveys;
  • Confidence and safety when working in and around water;
  • Outdoor experience and good fitness;
  • Ability to follow processes and document accurately;
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to manage time to meet budgets and deadlines;
  • Intermediate level computing skills; and
  • Current driver's licence.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Knowledge of MS Excel, including formulas and pivot tables;
  • Electrofishing licence and fish identification skills; and
  • 4WD experience and ability to drive manual vehicles.
