EOS Ecology provides industry-leading expertise in aquatic science and visual communication. Working throughout New Zealand, our team of scientists, technicians and communicators have been helping government-based organisations, consultants and industry since 2001.

We are seeking a passionate Freshwater Scientist with specialist knowledge of sediment and nutrient dynamics to be part of our successful and expanding aquatic science team. This permanent full-time position will contribute significantly to our surface water ecology programme.

You will be responsible for leading the sediment and nutrient dynamics discipline within EOS Ecology and contributing to company growth, particularly within your speciality area. You will be involved in a diverse range of projects within our service areas of research, restoration and design, investigations and monitoring, and resource consent-related work.

You'll be working alongside other scientists, with support from technicians, science communicators and senior staff.

We would expect the successful applicant to have:

  • A post graduate degree within aquatic science;
  • A minimum of five years industry experience;
  • An indepth understanding of New Zealand's freshwater ecosystems, particularly in the area of catchment-wide sediment and nutrient dynamics;
  • Knowledge of the RMA and other relevant NZ legislation;
  • The ability to identify and realise business/project opportunities;
  • The ability to develop robust study designs that are fit for purpose;
  • Strong statistical analysis and interpretation skills, including use of statistical software;
  • A good understanding of catchment models, with the ability to run sediment and/or nutrient catchment models being seen as a significant advantage;
  • Excellent report writing, presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Innovation and a desire to find new solutions to old problems;
  • Maturity, dedication and the ability to work under pressure;
  • The ability to effectively manage budgets and deadlines; and
  • A desire to learn and grow.
