Through the GLOBE (Growing Leaders on Behalf of the Environment) internship program, The Nature Conservancy hires undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent college graduates (2014, 2015, and 2016) to fill paid internship positions during a 10-week summer internship. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Nature Conservancy of New Jersey has identified the Paulins Kill watershed (a tributary of the Delaware River) as a priority area for habitat restoration and water quality improvement. A critical component of this strategy is the restoration of floodplain forests identified within strategic segments of this watershed. Building on prior successes elsewhere in the watershed we will be re-planting and restoring multiple contiguous miles of floodplain forest throughout the Paulins Kill watershed. To accomplish this goal, we are hiring 2 seasonal Freshwater Restoration GLOBE Interns to implement this project. These positions will help with additional freshwater-related projects as needed, such as performing water quality monitoring and landowner outreach towards initiating new restoration projects. The Freshwater Restoration Interns participate in the implementation of a variety of restoration, assessment and monitoring projects throughout the Paulins Kill watershed. These positions may include one or more of the following functions:

Assists with on-site implementation of projects including: operating hand tools, removing exotic species, and planting native species in priority floodplain area
Maps project sites and assists with invasive species mapping using GPS and ArcGIS
Assists with other freshwater tasks including tree and shrub survival monitoring, erosion monitoring, and other to be determined projects.
Communicates regularly with supervisor and conservation staff regarding site information
Maintains all necessary tools and equipment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
HS Diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in an undergraduate program, graduate program, or a recent graduate (within two years of graduating from an undergraduate or graduate program) for biology, conservation/environmental sciences, or related field, or equivalent
Experience using MS office, Word and Excel, and navigating the Internet.
Ability to effectively express messages verbally and in writing, actively listen to others, foster open exchange of issues
Ability to produce information in a timely manner
Flexible to changing circumstances
Ability to maintain positive working relationships, contribute to produce partnerships, understand team dynamics, roles and the value of others’ contributions and effectively deal with conflict
Versatile learner committed to self-improvement
Focuses on priorities, strives for excellence, dependable and accountable, ability to meet deadlines in the face of obstacles
Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with ArcGIS

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

This is a full-time, temporary internship position with a position term of May 31st – August 5th, 2016.
We are looking to fill this position with two qualified candidates.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT

This position will require working outside in variable weather conditions.
AUTO SAFETY POLICY
This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with the Conservancy's Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.

SALARY INFORMATION
$12/hour for those currently enrolled in an undergraduate program
$14/hour for those with undergraduate degrees and/or currently enrolled in a graduate degree program
