EOS Ecology requires someone with a passion for the environment to join our spirited team on a permanent full-time basis in June 2008. Christchurch based, this position’s primary focus will be as a field and laboratory technician but will likely include other responsibilities. The successful applicant will be joining a progressive company dedicated to excellence in its field. Specialising in freshwater and estuarine systems, EOS Ecology is a team of aquatic scientists predominantly involved in applied research for councils, crown research institutes, universities, government bodies, industry, and consultants. Must haves: • An enthusiastic attitude towards freshwater ecology and research; • MSc in freshwater biological sciences and 3 to 5+ years work experience, however, a minimum of a MSc or equivalent experience will be considered; • Ability to conduct field surveys relevant to freshwater systems; • Knowledge of laboratory procedures for processing invertebrate samples, including operation of standard scientific equipment; • Proven proficiency in accurately identifying NZ freshwater invertebrate species, including familiarity with using identification keys; • Strong attention to detail and accuracy; • Ability to work to a budget and deadline; • Intermediate level of computer competency; and • Current driver’s licence. Desirable but not essential: • Electrofishing licence and fish identification skills; and • 4WD experience. Remuneration will be within a salary range of $30,000 to $50,000 per annum.
