Bush Heritage is a non-profit conservation organisation dedicated to protecting Australia's unique animals, plants and their habitats.

We work with Aboriginal groups, farmers, pastoralists and other conservation organisations and networks to help identify conservation threats, plan strategies, source funding, and develop skills and resources needed for the long term sustainability of country.  Through these innovative conservation partnerships, along with the more than 35 reserves we directly own, we're now protecting millions of hectares of the most ecologically important and threatened landscapes across Australia.

The Freshwater Ecologist will be responsible for implementing Bush Heritage’s freshwater research and monitoring program in Queensland and NSW, including primary carriage of all aspects of the red-finned blue-eye recovery program at Edgbaston Reserve.  The position will also oversee ecological monitoring, flora and fauna survey and research liaison on Bush Heritage’s Edgbaston Reserve (Qld) and Naree Station – Yantabulla reserves (northern NSW).

The Freshwater Ecologist will also provide freshwater expertise, advice and support across the organisation where required.  The position requires superior understanding of freshwater ecology (especially Great Artesian Basin springs), fish biology, threatened species legislation and obligations, water management/environmental flows, and ecological monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
