Project Type: Public Lands Early Successional Habitat Management

Bids are being considered by the American Bird Conservancy (ABC) for one project on the Four Brooks WMA Onamia, MN travel 8.5 miles S on US Highway 169. The ABC is looking for contractors to complete non-commercial mechanical treatments (hydroaxe or brush-mowing) to create high quality young forest habitat according to the Golden Winged-Warbler Best Management Practices. Contracted labor is targeted for completion in February-March of 2014 under frozen ground conditions. Boundary lines and treatment areas will be marked via flagging tape or paint or project boundary shapefiles will be provided for use in a GPS unit.

 

Existing Stand Conditions:

Stands are dominated by dense willow, alder and aspen species from 1-3” DBH (3-5” in some areas) DBH with few residual l mature aspen and oak (6+” DBH). Stands are quite uniform in composition with very little structural diversity. Residual trees and legacy patches will be retained as per the direction of the ABC project manager or Four Brooks WMA Project Manager.
