The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization, seeks a Foundation Relations Officer in our Advancement department.  Positioned out of our Chicago, IL office the successful candidate will manage and grow a portfolio of regional (Midwest, Northeast) and national donors as well as work in collaboration with a four-member team of Foundation Relations Officers (FROs) charged with raising more $6 million annually, and a 20-member Advancement Department raising more than $10 million annually. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify funding opportunities and develop strategies for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of foundation donors and prospects
  • Write compelling grant proposals, concept papers, letters of inquiry, reports and acknowledgement letters for foundations and for corporate and individual/major donor prospects/funders
    Prepare financial information, including budgets and financial reports, in collaboration with program and finance staff
  • Meet with key funders and prepare meeting materials and talking points for leadership staff

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of job related experience or advanced degree with 2 or more years relevant experience or 7 to 10 years of experience in a job-related field, particularly foundation and corporate relations
  • Demonstrated track record in cultivating and maintaining multi-year relationships with sophisticated funders in excess of $350,000 annually.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and significant experience with grant writing.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong MSOffice skills required particularly Word, Outlook and Excel 
  • Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA standards required
  • Willingness to travel nationally (15-20%) required
