The technical specialist is expected to contribute to:
I. Developing the PROFOR portfolio in innovative financing for sustainable forest management and governance by:
• working with appropriate groups to identify and develop priority areas for future PROFOR support especially with regard to ensuring equitable environmental service provision is addressed (viz. biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and other forest environmental services);
• synthesizing the “state of the art” both to help disseminate key findings, but also to assist in identifying themes about which further analytical work might be needed;
• Identifying tools and analytic work on priority areas of governance and innovative financing which could be developed with PROFOR support.
II. Strengthening PROFOR client relations:
• Proactively engaging external stakeholders and development partners to identify key areas where PROFOR support might be needed, and could contribute to the knowledge generation and information dissemination agenda;
• identifying needed technical services for the implementation of PROFOR activities;
• reviewing and evaluating proposals for PROFOR support;
• Liaising with Bank task team leaders, internal networks (such as PREM), partnership coordinators, and other relevant units and staff to link PROFOR work with regional activities, Bank operations and country processes;
• Supporting the PROFOR Secretariat in enhancing PROFOR’s impact and effective implementation.
III. Improving PROFOR’s knowledge management and monitoring system:
• supervising consultants who are implementing PROFOR activities, and working with them to finalize products and processes to enhance their impact;
• tracking the quality of and compliance with reporting requirements;
• improving the overall quality of PROFOR’s portfolio through technical reviews of interim products;
• closely working with PROFOR’s communication specialist on implementing a knowledge management strategy for the thematic areas under the technical specialist’s responsibility.

While the bulk of the technical specialist’s work will focus on the innovative financing and governance thematic areas, the capacity to provide support in PROFOR’s other thematic areas will be important.
