Carbon Forests Limited is a forest project management company set up to commercially reforest 20,000 hectares of degraded forest land in Ghana using indigenous tree species. The project has been designed in partnership with Arborcarb (www.arborcarb.com) to generate voluntary carbon credits and sustainable timber. Following a successful pilot phase during 2009, Carbon Forests Limited is seeking to recruit a Project Director to plan and manage its reforestation activities in Ghana. The Project Director will join the Ghana team and be responsible for the establishment and delivery of all Ghana projects. Main objectives of the role · Manage the establishment and maintenance of plantations in order to ensure that the project performance matches or exceeds projected investment returns.· Manage and develop the competence and capacity of a large team to roll out and maintain the project.· Provide technical input to development of business opportunities.· Coordinate and foster in-country interactions with local stakeholders, delivery partners and certification bodies for VCS, CCB and FSC standards; and with carbon/natural resource stakeholders in the project country.· Assist in the development of further project opportunities in Ghana and regionally, including oversight of feasibility studies. Key qualifications and experience The following requirements are essential: · minimum of 5 years commercial project management experience in land sector based projects (forestry or agriculture)· proven experience of managing a large team and in the successful delivery of complex projects· degree in forestry, agriculture, natural resources or related environmental science · understanding of forest-based carbon credits · considerable individual drive, initiative and organisational skills · good team player with excellent interpersonal skills· fluency in English and proven excellent communication skills· experience of working in Africa The following requirements are desirable but not essential: · experience of tropical forestry, and also of Ghana· understanding of carbon crediting processes· competence in French Location and travelWestern or Ashanti Region, Ghana PackageCompetitive compensation and benefits package; commensurate with qualifications and experience.
