DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the general supervision of the Director, Forestry Economics and Policy Division, and the direct supervision of the Chief, Forest Policy Service, the incumbent will plan and implement programmes, which promote better policies in forestry. In particular, the incumbent will: - develop and support implementation of guidelines and practical methodologies to promote effective forest policy development, policy implementation and inter-sectoral policy dialogue, especially in the context of national forest programmes;
- support, through guidelines and workshops, capacity building of forest stakeholders and relevant institutions in forest policy formulation, analysis and evaluation;
- provide technical support to countries on matters related to forest policy development, analysis and implementation as well as on strengthening policy linkages with relevant sectors, especially agriculture;
- provide guidance and technical support to national forest programmes on matters related to forest policies and their linkages with the policies of other sectors;
- formulate, monitor and provide technical backstopping of projects in the area of forest policy formulation, analysis and evaluation;
- identify and develop information on emerging issues related to forest policy in collaboration with other FAO units, other international organizations and relevant non-governmental organizations;
- develop and maintain contact with donors and contribute to resource mobilization to support the programme;
- perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Candidates should meet the following: |
- Advanced University Degree in Forestry, Political Sciences or a related field
- Seven years of relevant experience in international forestry development which included significant work in forest policy
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two

SELECTION CRITERIA Candidates will be assessed against the following: |
- Extent of working experience in forest policy, intersectoral policy linkages and national forest programmes
- Extent of working experience in developing countries and regional/international programmes or organizations
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, monitor and evaluate programme activities
- Extent of experience in organizing and coordinating technical meetings and training workshops
- Demonstrated ability to analyze technical and conceptual issues, to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
- Capacity to work in a team environment

REMUNERATION |
Level P-4 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 113,178 US$ 141,906 (without dependants) and from US$ 121,538 to US$ 153,266 (with dependants) |
