The Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) is recruiting for several mid- and senior-level positions for its Forestry and Climate Change Program.  The Forestry staff will be an integral part of CCAP’s international climate change policy team, and will provide research, management and coordination support to CCAP’s Reducing Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) efforts, through both on-the-ground work in developing countries in Asia and Latin America and cutting-edge case studies and policy reports at the UNFCCC and international levels.  Senior staff will also be responsible for overseeing the work of CCAP staff and external consultants, preparing presentations and outreach materials based on the analytical reports produced at CCAP, and leading fund-raising and relationship building efforts.  Expected salary range is 50,000 – 90,000 USD per annum depending on the position and the individual’s qualifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and assist with research and analysis of international REDD policy development.
  • Prepare and review high-quality deliverables such as case studies, policy reports, memos etc. based on research conducted by her/himself or others at CCAP.
  • Prepare presentations/workshop materials for high-level international meetings.
  • Develop relationships with key policymakers, academics and other stakeholders in various countries and at the UNFCCC.

Senior staff will also:

  • Prepare, track and update program-wide and project-specific work plans and budgets.
  • Coordinate and guide activities of CCAP program staff and external consultants.
  • Develop new directions and projects for the program, lead fund-raising efforts and prepare new proposals and budgets.
  • Work with senior policy staff to ensure that the Forestry program aligns with strategic organizational objectives and to explore synergies with other programs at CCAP.
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Successful candidates will be articulate professionals with sophistication, intelligence, drive and experience in forestry, climate change and environmental policy.  S/he will hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field, and have a minimum of three to eight years of policy or related experience with some focus on REDD policy and forestry.  S/he will be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative and a desire to grow the existing program.  Additionally, ideal applicants will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes and experiences:
 
  • Knowledge of and work experience in international REDD policy and/or forest management, and climate change or environmental policy in developing countries/regions, preferably Indonesia or other countries in Southeast Asia; 
  • Substantive knowledge of international climate change policy and the ability to understand and articulate sophisticated scientific, policy and economic analysis; 
  • Established track record in coordinating and conducting research on complicated policy issues in relevant areas, especially in circumstances where available information is limited;
  • Experience coordinating, managing and providing guidance to a diverse team of staff, consultants and government partners in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience bringing major deliverables to completion, developing new programs and raising significant new funding;
  • A strong quantitative background and experience in economic or scientific analysis, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • A zeal for financing and delivering effective developing country actions to support continued international momentum to address climate change;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills in English with the ability to write for both policy and analytic audiences,  reach out to stakeholders, and present to and lead groups – knowledge of other languages is a plus; 
  • The flexibility and proven ability to work in a collaborative environment;
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 30% of time for periods up to 3 weeks at a stretch for conducting project meetings, interviews, workshops, etc;
  • A sense of humor, adaptability, humility and creativity.
