Forest Governance Campaigner at FERN

Full time position

Brussels, Belgium.

FERN is an international organisation that works to achieve greater environmental and social justice, focusing on forests and forest peoples’ rights in the policies and practices of the European Union. We facilitate several NGO networks and work cooperatively to achieve change. Currently, our main campaign areas are Forest Governance (‘illegal logging’), Forests and Climate, Carbon Trading, European Forests and Trade and Investment.

FERN has no director and strives to make decisions by consensus. This drives our way of working, which is to open rather than occupy space for dialogue on issues that affect forests and the environment. FERN has two offices: in Brussels, Belgium and Moreton-in-Marsh, UK.

FERN is looking for a new campaigner to become part of its forest governance team, working at the EU level and with partner organisations in the Global South to improve forest governance, including by effectively implementing the EU FLEGT (Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade) Programme.

The successful applicant will work as part of FERN’s team; be hard working, politically astute, socially adapt, dynamic, flexible, able to multi-task (networking, advocacy, researching and writing) and culturally sensitive. S/he will need to be able to liaise easily with both EU officials and grassroots organisations specifically in Central and Western Africa.
