Description

In January 2019, Cornwall Council declared a Climate Emergency and following the development and adoption of the Carbon Neutral Cornwall Action Plan in July of that year launched the Forest for Cornwall.

The Forest for Cornwall aims to enable and empower the people of Cornwall to take action to tackle the climate and ecological emergencies by helping our residents, businesses and communities create a new treescape through the establishment of 8000 hectares of new trees, hedgerows and woodlands across Cornwall.

Within the programme several projects are in delivery or development phases including Trees 4 Cornish Towns, across a number of our towns with support from private finance as well as potential larger planting sites on our own Council Farms and other assets and a tree nursery opportunity. In spring 2021 the F4C programme was confirmed as one of two Woodland Creation Partnerships nationally, attracting significant investment from DEFRA.

The role holder will work to support our community and private landowner engagement work – providing advice and guidance to enable landowners to meet their woodland establishment ambitions.

Fairness and inclusion are at the heart of our vision for Cornwall.  In order to best serve our communities, we are striving to achieve a diverse workforce that is inclusive of all backgrounds, cultures and identities; e.g. race, disability, sex, gender, age, religion and sexual orientation. We are an equal opportunities and Disability Confident employer, and we will assess applicants on their merits.

Cornwall Council is committed to safeguarding and following safer recruitment principles to help make sure our staff and volunteers are suitable to work with children, young people and adults at risk. It’s a vital part of creating a safe and positive environment and making a commitment to keeping all service users safe from harm.

Whilst the location/work-base for this role has been specified, the current Government guidance around social distancing and our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g. from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.

This is a fixed term contract to March 2023 due to additional funding.

We are open to discussion about flexible working.

Closing Date: 28/11/2021
