Greenpeace Canada is an independently funded, non-profit organization that works to protect the environment and ensure socially equitable solutions to complex global challenges. We challenge government and industry to halt harmful practices by negotiating solutions, conducting scientific research, introducing clean alternatives, carrying out peaceful acts of civil disobedience and educating and engaging the public. To maintain independence Greenpeace does not accept donations from corporations or governments and is a non-profit organization not a registered charity. Greenpeace relies on individual donors and creative partnerships to fund our environmental campaigns.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Developing and implementing approved campaign plans and strategies to achieve forest campaign goals (including, but not limited to mobilization, non-violent direct action, lobbying, research, and communications).
  2. Maintaining active and respectful relationships with First Nations leaders and community members.
  3. Managing outreach to allied groups, coalition partners, communities and influencers
  4. Communicating with federal/provincial officials related to forest policies, regulations and legislation. 
  5. Engaging major forest products customers to support forest conservation through voluntary and legislated mechanisms.
  6. Maintaining current knowledge of forest issues and relevant effective and emerging strategies and tactics.
  7. Collaborating with Greenpeace Communications and Digital Mobilization staff to develop media contacts, secure regional and international media coverage, promote campaigns through digital media and organize media events both in French and English.   
  8. Promoting support within Greenpeace and from the public to advance campaign goals.  Working with the Mobilization team to organize public events, protests, and actions.
  9. Leading cross-functional, national and global projects as needed as per established GP project management processes. Acting as task managers within a project management framework. Overseeing approved project budgets.
  10. Responding to public inquiries about campaign issues and other matters.  Delivering presentations and responding to public speaking requests. Attending and/or organizing conferences.
  11. Preparing materials and publications.  
  12. Performing other duties as assigned.

Skill and Knowledge Requirements:

  1. A demonstrated commitment, knowledge and passion for environmental and social justice issues; understanding of and support for Greenpeace’s style of campaigning;
  2. Strong knowledge of best practices and principles of diversity and inclusion;
  3. Experience working with First Nations communities and Indigenous Peoples;
  4. Experience with advocacy and campaigns, including community outreach, research, strategic analysis, goal-setting, and communications;
  5. Demonstrated leadership skills and teamwork skills; ability to effectively contribute towards team goals, strategies, and work plans;
  6. Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, volatile and ever-changing context;
  7. Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and proceed with objectives without supervision;
  8. Excellent strategic thinking, negotiation and planning skills;
  9. Ability to coordinate projects and work with colleagues from a distance, involving multiple offices and time zones in a global environment;
  10. Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking, media interview and presentation skills, as well as strong listening abilities;
  11. Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement; strong decision-making skills;
  12. Flexible and collaborative;
  13. Extremely well-organized;
  14. Fluency in French and English both spoken and written is required;
  15. Experience working collaboratively with unions is an asset.

You will work with colleagues in Canada and around the world and you must be able to travel, including internationally. Evening and weekend work is sometimes required.
