Description

Forest destruction accounts for around 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions. That's more than the world's entire transport sector.  Greenpeace is working on several solutions to rampant deforestation in the Australia Pacific region including raising consumer awareness and working with community landowners on ecoforestry projects.

This is a critical position within Greenpeace Australia Pacific and is directly responsible for leading and building our challenging Forest Campaign team to achieve campaign objectives.  The primary responsibility is to lead our team of campaigners in developing and implementing strategies to protect the earth’s last remaining ancient forest tracts and empower local communities to act.  You will work closely with other offices from around the world, liaise with other NGOs and actively represent Greenpeace in public activities, the business, scientific and government sectors, and the media.

You will use your outstanding leadership and people management skills to lead a cross cultural team spread across the region, manage a budget of up to AUD500K and work collaboratively with other Departments to ensure that organisational goals are met.  Your detailed knowledge and passion for forest issues, together with your proven ability to achieve environmental campaign objectives will be invaluable as you develop strategies to change public, government and business behaviour to meet campaign objectives.

As well as the opportunity to make a difference on crucial issues, Greenpeace offers employees a supportive work environment and a real commitment to life/work balance.  We also encourage staff to develop new skills, take on challenges and get involved in the wider organisation.
