  • 1. Prioritize Gulf Coast IBAs and other lands of strategic importance to the priority coastal birds identified in Audubon’s strategic Gulf of Mexico (GOM) restoration plan, working closely with the GOM team and VP Gulf of Mexico.

    2. Reviews management plans and activities of managing entities of priority locations.

    3. Working with the management entity Develop plans and plan recommendations for site management for priority locations including prescriptions for management to improve outcomes for coastal birds at these sites.

    4. Work with Florida Wildlife Policy Coordinator and regional staff to influence land managers to implement management prescriptions.

    5. Work with Florida Chapters Coordinator and Florida Campaign Coordinator to train and deploy volunteers to assist with evaluation, monitoring and management of these IBAs and other sites.

    6. Team with Florida Communications Director and Florida Campaign Coordinator to heighten awareness of coastal bird issues and management needs among chapters, general public and decision-makers.

    7. Assist Gulf IBA leadership with identifying data for the national IBA database.

    8. Report regularly on effort and achievement to share information and provide content for communication with the Audubon family, donors and the broader community of support for Gulf restoration.

  • 9. Work with state program and IBA program to build both programs and support for other grants and fundraising as requested.

    10. Fill gaps in existing list of Florida IBA’s by accepting and evaluating applications for new IBA’s.

    11. Coordinate with the Florida Ornithological Society on completing the publication of the Florida Important Bird Areas book (scheduled for this year).

  • Florida Wildlife Policy director, regional staff along Florida’s Gulf Coast, other Florida staff including policy and development; other regional IBA coordinators, Gulf IBA coordinator and other NAS science and policy staff

  • Florida board, chapter leaders, land managers, allied organizations, regulatory agencies, press, donors, private landowners, recreational users.

  • Degree in conservation biology, wildlife management, ornithology, natural resources or similar plus at least two years of work experience in conservation and/or coastal land management. Proficient in identification of birds of Florida by sight and sound, familiarity with Florida coastal processes and land management. Experience recruiting, organizing and training volunteers. Some facility with ARC GIS for map development and analysis. Self direction and ability to problem solve essential. Extensive travel within Florida will be required. Strong public speaking and writing a must.
