FLORA FIELD ASSISTANT - Seasonal Position

Division:

Restoration and Infrastructure

Salary Range:

Range 1   $16.65 to $18.71 per hour

Summary of Function:

Assist biologists in data collection for the inventory and monitoring of terrestrial natural heritage systems in the TRCA jurisdiction. Health and Safety is a requirement of this position.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in biology, ecology or a related field or equivalent experience;
  • Strong interest in the ecology and fauna/flora of the Greater Toronto Area and Southern Ontario;
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and own vehicle would be an asset.

Example of Tasks:

Perform the following tasks under general supervision:

1. Assist with field inventories and monitoring of vegetation communities and flora species according to the TRCA's Terrestrial Natural Heritage protocol; Ecological Land Classification System (ELC) and EMAN vegetation biodiversity protocols.
2. Assist with field observations, data recording and specimen collection.
3. Ensure safety in the field (First Aid training provided).
4. Develop field skills as a form of apprenticeship.
