About us

If you’re part of the Environment Agency (EA), you’re part of the solution. Working with us means protecting and improving the environment and tackling issues of national importance. We’re based across England, and our responsibilities span industry regulation, flood defences, land contamination, water quality, fisheries and conservation.

Such broad scope of work calls for diverse, multi-skilled teams. Together, we’ll promote sustainable growth, tackle climate change and secure a better future for everyone.

Our Asset Performance Teams manage flood and coastal erosion risk assets to reduce the impact of flooding and protect our communities. We’re involved in the whole lifecycle of our assets from planning, delivery and maintenance, to responding to incidents and decommissioning. It also means managing the effects of climate change.

Your role with us

As an Asset Performance Advisor, you will be part of a team inspecting, maintaining and refurbishing flood & coastal risk assets, which include riverbanks, sluice gates and flood storage reservoirs. In this context, you could be involved in ensuring our assets meet performance and legal requirements, making operational plans, investment planning, engaging with partners, developing our maintenance programme or leading on data management improvements. We perform an essential role in ensuring that people and property are protected from flooding by taking the right investment decision at the right time, based upon robust data.

As part of the team and wider flood risk management work you will be lead and supporting an overview of flood risk through strategic planning, understanding of flood risk, permitting and enforcement of flood risk activities, influencing development, management of our flood risk asset portfolio and responding to flood incidents.

You can also expect to support the Team Leader in technical leadership of other team members, assisting with their supervision and development.

Incident Management forms a crucial part of the job and you will be expected to participate in a stand-by rota.
