About our agency

If you’re part of the Environment Agency (EA), you’re part of the solution. Working with us means protecting and improving the environment for generations to come, tackling issues of national importance across a huge variety of disciplines. We’re based in over 14 areas across England, and our responsibilities span major industry regulation, flood defences, land contamination, water quality, fisheries and conservation. Such a broad scope of work calls for diverse, multi-skilled teams and exceptional leadership: together, we’ll promote sustainable growth, tackle climate change and secure a better future for everyone.

Your role with us

You’ll be at the heart of our efforts to deliver a world class defence asset management service. Guiding, managing and delivering an exemplary, optimised routine maintenance programme, you’ll provide monthly budgetary controls and reports and develop excellent working relationships. We’re a category 1 responder, and it’s our number one priority to deliver flood response and ground partnership where necessary. From operating structures during incidents to clearing obstructions to inspecting and repairing defences, you’ll be vital to our success.

As a Flood & Coastal Risk Management Advisor, you’ll support the Field Team Leader through offering expert advice and sound technical capability across a number of tasks. With an overarching goal to ensure that all incident responses can be carried our safely and with fully operational systems, you’ll provide key services to our partners and the communities we serve.

You’ll work with a number of colleagues and stakeholders across both office and field responsibilities and act as an ambassador for the Environment Agency. A ‘frontline’ responder, you’ll be providing essential operational flood response for the public and wider communities.

Who we’re looking for

We need an energetic and enthusiastic individual to use a combination of charisma and charm to successfully build relationships and deliver a broad programme of operational flood defence projects and field-based team organisation.

With all the relevant qualifications and a full UK driving licence, you’ll have an aptitude for coaching and mentoring, good experience in delivering projects and the capacity to remain cool-headed in a variety of urgent and emergency situations.

Your benefits with us

We pride ourselves on a sense of community and support. That goes for our careers, too – whatever your goals, we’ll support you with exceptional coaching and mentoring while giving you opportunities to thrive. And, as a Civil Service employee, you’ll be able to take advantage of all kinds of benefits, including generous annual leave, flexible working, childcare and travel allowances, staff networks and clubs, onsite facilities and a Civil Service pension.
