Co-advising the flats research group at The Island School and assist with ongoing flats research at The Cape Eleuthera institute. This role allows the intern to improve their teaching abilities as well as learn about bonefish life history characteristics, reproductive biology, movement patterns, physiological characteristics, and best handling practices by anglers. In addition, the intern will learn about experimental design, scientific method, and improve their communication skills. This role includes: organizing logistics, co-teaching in the classroom/field, grading assignments, providing feedback, collecting data and becoming knowledgeable about background information. In addition, the intern will contribute directly to ongoing flats research at The Cape Eleuthera Institute which may include: VR2 receiver downloading and replacement, feeding and monitoring bonefish health, monitoring water quality parameters, capture of marine fish and invertabrates, and assessing the metabolic consequences of future climate change on these species. There may be additional opportunities to get involved with scientists and their short term research projects. Secondary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: cobia aquculture, aquaponics, patch reef, etc. Secondary responsibilities may include assisting with research and work projects at CEI. Research opportunities may include, but are not limited to: cobia aquaculture, aquaponics, shark and bonefish research, etc. Work projects may include reef ball construction, landscaping, and boat maintenance. This position requires the ability to work long hours with a close-knit group of peers.

QualificationsApplicant should have a background in teaching/supervising students in an environmental setting. A marine biology/environmental science is preferred but not required. Wilderness medical certification (WFR, WAFA, etc.) is a plus.. SkillsApplicant should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Power Point. Marine sampling techniques a plus, but is not required.
