The future of the fish supper is no longer guaranteed. 90% of the world’s wild capture fisheries are already being fished at or above their maximum capacity with 40% of North East Atlantic stocks, including those around the UK, being overfished. Consumer awareness regarding fish stocks and the problems they face has been increasing in recent years, and it was this demand for knowledge that led to MCS publishing the Good Fish Guide in 2002. Since then we have gone on to help hundreds of people understand more about the pressures on fish stocks and developed a number of tools to help consumers make sustainable fish purchases including our in-depth online Good Fish Guide, the handy pocket-sized version and the associated app for making decisions on the go. We’ve teamed up with the Monteray Bay Aquarium in order to support this work and we are looking for a Fisheries Scientist to join our Fisheries & Aquaculture team. This new post will research and maintain our vital information databases and support our partnership with the Monteray Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch (SFW) With your knowledge of the sustainable seafood movement and fisheries management, you will be rigorous and detail-focused in researching new information and updating the existing knowledge on the state of wild-capture fisheries. You will use methodologies to produce assessments and ratings for Sea Food Watch and our Good Fish Guide Key Skills
