Job Title: Fisheries Manager
Location: Busan, South Korea
Working Hours: 9:00am – 6:00pm (40 hours per week)

The MSC is currently looking for a Fisheries Manager, who can lead on sustainable fisheries in South Korea. You’ll be responsible for outreach to the fishery and commercial sectors in South Korea. The post holder will increase awareness and understanding of the MSC program and the part that the MSC plays in delivering solutions to the environmental challenges of overfishing amongst several stakeholder groups, including: industrial and artisanal fisheries, fishing associations, business groups with high fishing activities, governments, scientists and NGOs.

You will also work closely with fishery stakeholders and communities in the region to conceive and deliver the MSC program through the fishery certification based on the assessment and improvement programs.

Our program is growing. As more fisheries, retailers, and consumers commit to sustainable seafood, we’re evolving our fishery and commercial strategy to deliver our strategic plan from 2020 onwards.

Who are we?

The MSC’s vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations. Through our internationally recognised certification and ecolabelling program well-managed sustainable fisheries are recognised and rewarded in the marketplace through the leadership of our partners. Critically, other fisheries are incentivised to improve their performance to meet the growing demand for certified sustainable and traceable seafood choice. Over 400 fisheries around the world, representing 17% of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC program, and over 1200 documented improvements to the way our oceans are being fished have been recorded. MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries.

Who are you?

You will have:

  • A post-graduate degree and relevant experience working with fishery science, fishery resource assessment and management, marine biology and ecosystem conservation.
  • A good understanding of the role of ecolabelling
  • A good understanding of sustainable development and related fishery, commercial and communications issues
  • Fluency in written and spoken Korean and English.
