MAIN DUTIES

  • Lead the planning and day-to-day management of the overall FishMap Môn project, including line management and supervision of project team staff (Liaison Officer data collection and the GIS/Data Officer data analysis)
  • Track progress of the overall project and ensure work is progressing satisfactorily in order to deliver project outputs.
  • Liaise with project partners throughout the project including the commercial and non-commercial fishing sectors.
  • Ensure that the project achieves successful stakeholder engagement in the public, private and voluntary sectors to ensure that the project outputs are widely understood and accepted.
  • Prepare briefing papers, regular updates and presentations for the Project Steering Group, Project Board and internal CCW meetings as required.
  • Act as the main point of contact for the FishMap Mon project, coordinating and providing responses, advice and input as required.
  • Monitor and manage risks which impact on the successful delivery of the project.
  • Develop and manage external contracts.
  • Lead on the preparation of the end of project report including recommendations for future work.
  • Ensure that the project’s workstreams interface effectively with CCW’s wider fisheries sensitivity mapping work.
  • Keep up to date on other relevant projects in the UK and elsewhere in order to share knowledge and best practice.
  • Keep accurate records and provide secretarial support in meetings (noting and following up on actions). Process paperwork in accordance with finance procedures and deadlines.
  • Arrange for the distribution of any reports and literature produced by the project.
  • Organise Steering Group and Project Board meetings, seminars, conferences, launches and workshops as required including liaising with participants, finding venues and preparing materials for use on the day.
  • Give equal weight to managing operations, resources and the people for whom you are responsible.

JOB COMPETENCIES

To be considered for this post you will need to demonstrate the following competencies:

Essential

  1. Demonstrable ability and the planning, organisational, budget and contract management skills required to manage successful projects.
  2. Good written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to provide clear messages from technical information and present work to a variety of audiences.
  3. A proven ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders together with an understanding of the role of key stakeholders.
  4. The ability to manage and motivate a team together with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems and contentious issues.
  5. The ability to use IT applications, such as word processing, powerpoint and spreadsheets.
  6. An awareness of Welsh culture, and a positive attitude to linguistic and cultural diversity.
    -The ability to use basic Welsh conversational phrases (eg ‘bore da’ – ‘good morning’) and to pronounce Welsh place names correctly.
    - The ability to currently and legally drive a car in the UK.

Desirable

  • 7. A working knowledge of MapInfo and/or ARCGIS software and a sound understanding of the analysis of spatial data.
  • 8. Skills in preparing bids for external funding.
  • 9. Event management and facilitation skills.
  • 10. An interest in marine conservation and/or sea fisheries.
    - Fluency in spoken Welsh.

SALARY

The starting salary will be £23,770.00 a year.

STATUS

This is a fixed-term, pensionable full-time appointment of 37 hours a week to 30 September 2012 (an extension to this contract is expected).
