FISHERIES MANAGEMENT ADVISOR (CORAL TRIANGLE – MELANESIA)
The Fisheries Management Advisor (Coral Triangle – Melanesia) will provide a wide range of coastal fisheries management advice and support to the Conservancy field teams and their partners at the community, provincial and national levels within the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. The Advisor will work with relevant government partners, TNC teams and other national and regional stakeholders, to help implement the fisheries management aspects of the Conservancy’s program activities in support of the “Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security”. The Advisor will also assist with the fundraising goals of the AP Marine Program. The position can be based in Brisbane (Australia), Honiara (Solomon Islands) or Port Moresby (PNG). The position will require travel in the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, the Asia Pacific Region and elsewhere internationally as required.
Basic qualifications and experience: Bachelor or higher degree and at least 7 years’ experience in fisheries, fisheries management, marine conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience of all aspects of tropical coastal fisheries management: planning; implementing; managing; evaluating; and building capacity. Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals, partners and multi-disciplinary teams. Experience in partnership development and capacity building (partners, community, government, NGOs). Experience with fundraising: proposal writing, program/project reporting, donor relations. Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing coastal fisheries management plans. Understanding of current and evolving coastal fisheries and management trends within the Asia-Pacific, especially in the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. Understanding of and relevant experience in the cultures of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands preferred. Knowledge of PNG Tok Pisin and/or Solomon Islands Pijin preferred.
