Description

Permanent

Seize this great opportunity to make a positive impact on global sustainability in our rapidly growing, leading international fishery certification and eco-labelling programme.

The MSC operates an exciting and ambitious program, working with partners to transform the world's seafood markets and promote sustainable fishing practices. The MSC certification program gives fisheries a way to independently confirm sustainability, a competitive edge in the marketplace, and an assurance to buyers that the fish comes from a well managed and sustainable source. Fish products that come from fisheries that meet the MSC environmental standard for sustainable fishing are marked with the MSC ecolabel to show they come from a certified sustainable source. The MSC ecolabel makes it easy for consumers to make the best environmental choice in seafood.

Operating within the Standards & Licensing (S&L) Team, the Fisheries Director leads a team responsible for the MSC quality control of assessments to ensure the rigour and credibility of fishery assessments. The post holder will also be tasked with:

* Providing a point of contact and centre of excellence for fishery assessment related issues;
* Providing technical expertise to allow effective quality control monitoring of fisheries assessments conducted by certification bodies;
* Monitoring the continued development in global fisheries, fishery science and management to ensure MSCs methodology remains appropriately aligned; and
* Utilising their technical skills and working with colleagues, develop new policy, coordinate required consultation and inform stakeholders about these processes.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of ten years experience in a fishery science, fisheries management or similar role, excellent knowledge of fishery science and related issues and personal credibility in the fishery science and conservation communities.
