ClientEarth is a non-profit environmental law, science and policy organisation with offices in London, Brussels, and Warsaw. We provide dedicated public-interest legal capacity, working with environmental NGOs and other stakeholders and acting as legal advocates for environmental objectives. We work at a policy and legislative level to lobby for strong laws and policies that protect the environment, and we pursue litigation that supports our strategic objectives. Our work centres on the development and execution of clear strategies and productive partnerships to ensure our actions to protect the human right to a clean and healthy environment have maximum impact.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Officer to join our team. The Finance Officer will join a small dynamic finance team with responsibility for managing ClientEarth’s financial resources. Based in London, the role will report to the Finance Manager and will cover the organisation as a whole, currently including offices in London, Belgium and Warsaw.

About the role and responsibilities

The successful applicant will be required to fulfil a broad range of duties, including:

  • Responsibility for preparing payroll input to send to payroll support services
  • Processing payroll and pension payments in Sage
  • Monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and other credit control accounts
  • Managing payments via electronic banking and ensure daily monitoring of cash position in each bank account (London, Brussels and Warsaw)
  • Assisting in the preparation of quarterly funds analysis and financial reporting for internal management and for programme staff
  • Assisting in the preparation of quarterly management accounts and annual statutory accounts in accordance with the SORP
  • Preparing financial reports on specific grants for submission to funders
  • Liaising with external audiences; auditors, funders and donors
  • Providing financial support to managers, project staff, and the development team as needed
  • The post-holder will also play a role in developing our financial capacity, keeping abreast of relevant new and emerging charity finance legislative and practice developments.

Key skills

  • Proven experience of working within charity finance and especially working with restricted funds and with different currencies
  • Experience of working with payroll data and processes
  • Strong organisational skills and efficient management of time, multiple tasks and priorities
  • Flexibility in adapting plans quickly in order to react to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Excellent team working and collaboration
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail with a keen focus on getting the job done correctly
  • Initiative in being able to anticipate situations and problems, and find appropriate solutions
  • Ability to create own work plans, prioritise work demands so that deadlines are met
  • Good working knowledge of Sage or other similar accounting package together with good working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook.

Essential qualifications

  • You will be educated to at least degree level and will hold an accountancy qualification or accountancy knowledge demonstrable by experience, with at least three years experience in a finance role

As soon as possible in May/June 2014

Salary
£28,000-£33,000 per annum dependent on experience
