POSITION SUMMARY

The Fiji Country Program Director is a key position that provides leadership to ensure the implementation of the Fiji Country Program as part of the Pacific Islands Program (PIP) under the auspices of the Asia Pacific Field Division. The Director will be responsible for the implementation and coordination of all CI activities within Fiji. The position will also ensure good relations with the Government of Fiji and a wide range of stakeholders to ensure that CI activities are in line with national goals, southern cross stars, and programs to ensure that CI works effectively with all implementation partners.

This position will report directly to the Senior Director, Pacific Regional Program (SD-PRP), and maintain a professional network with all relevant persons within the Asia Pacific Field Division and CI Arlington.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the Fiji Program Cost Center and report monthly to SD-PRP. 
  • Provide leadership and program oversight to all Fiji Program staff as well as to supervise administration, Finance, and human resource management.
  • Coordinate CI implementation activities in Fiji.
  • Assist in the implementation of CI’s new approach through the formulation and implementation of new initiatives in Fiji.
  • Maintain and build the key leadership role and partnerships in collaboration with developed partners in Fiji.
  • Proficient in project technical design, report writing & editing.
  • Lead and supervise the various CI Fiji project activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position is based in Fiji. 
  • Normal office environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • A degree or in environmental/conservation management or a related field.
  • At least 10 years’ experience at senior management level in the conservation/environment/ natural resource management
  • Ability to lead a multi-disciplined team; interpret scientific/social data, and apply it to achieve national and institutional goals.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively with government, regional and international organizations, NGOs, universities, and the local communities on environmental management and conservation issues.
  • High-level of oral and written communication, negotiation, partnership building, and liaison skills
  • An understanding of technical/scientific language in English.
  • Proven ability in meeting deadlines and accomplishing routine tasks.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively in English. Proficient in management of Information Technology
  • Capacity to analyze, plan, prioritize, and implement with a strategic approach.
