Bird Studies Canada (BSC) - Atlantic Region is seeking up to 6 highly motivated field biologists to survey for breeding birds for the Maritimes Breeding Bird Atlas for 2.5 months beginning May 24, 2010. The Atlas is a five-year field project to determine the distribution and abundance of all bird species breeding in the Maritimes. For more information, visit www.mba-aom.ca.
   Field Technicians are required to conduct Breeding Bird Atlas fieldwork in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Fieldwork will consist of all day breeding bird surveys, including point counts, beginning in the early morning continuing through late afternoon each day.

Technicians must demonstrate the following skills/experience:

  • Ability to identify birds by sight and sound;
  • Comfortable working long days starting early in the morning;
  • Tent-camping (especially in remote areas);
  • Working in a team environment.
  • Candidates must also be legally entitled to work in Canada and have a valid driver's license.

Additional asset skills:

  • Familiarity with the Maritime provinces;
  • First Aid Certification, preferably Wilderness First Aid (note: successful candidates must obtain first aid certification prior to start date);
  • Navigation in remote areas with map, compass, GPS;
  • Boat experience.

Salary: $2350/month plus food and accommodation (tent camping).
