FIELD TECHNICIAN needed for Western Bluebird reintroduction project on San Juan Island, WA. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to learn and experience island ecology in the Pacific Northwest and includes housing at Friday Harbor Labs, a marine lab run by the University of Washington. Primary duties will include: searching for and monitoring released birds, feeding birds and maintaining aviaries prior to their release, trapping and banding, investigating reported sightings and coordinating observations from volunteers. 


Ideal candidates will have good birding skills, a strong interest in avian research and conservation, and a good driving record.  The majority of work is on private land and excellent communication skills are required. 


Applicants must be willing to work long hours, and most work days will begin at sunrise.  Position runs from 17 March 2011 – 5 August 2011. Pay rate is $1,550/mo + housing (some meals may be included).
