Field Service Officer

Parks Victoria has an ongoing opportunity available in Wail (South Western Victoria) working as part of a multi functional team consisting of approximately 4 to 6 staff (the immediate team). The primary focus of the role will be supporting fire management activities and assisting with the implementation of environmental programs and maintenance of visitor facilities.

Responsibilities for this position will include:

  • Responding to emergency incidents, in particular fire, including leading project fire fighters and maintenance of fire equipment.

  • Participating as a member of a works crew to ensure program objectives are met and that tasks are carried out effectively and efficiently and in a safe manner.

  • Maintaining and constructing a range of park facilities, including, signs, toilets, campgrounds, fences and walking tracks to Parks Victoria’s standards.

  • Assisting in the implementation of Parks Victoria’s pest animal and plant control programs (as applicable).

  • Providing information to park visitors on an informal basis when on duty in parks and reserves.

    To be successful the candidate must demonstrate practical skills in the maintenance and construction of a range of park facilities, experience and understanding of pest plant and animal control measures and an ability to work both as part of a team and independently.

    Ideally to secure this role, the incumbent will have among other skills, an ability to operate plant machinery including bulldozers, tractors, tankers, and trucks and have an Agricultural Chemical Users Permit (ACUP) and an appropriate chainsaw accreditation.
