POSITION SUMMARY
This position has currently identified financial support through December 30, 2012, and no guarantees can be made that the position will extend beyond that date.  However, The Nature Conservancy is an employer at will and the employment relationship may end at any time. 
• Manage and oversee wildlife monitoring projects and programs as needed to fulfill The Disney Wilderness Preserve (DWP) mitigation requirements and/or adaptive management needs.
• Assist with non-wildlife adaptive management projects and programs by participating in field data collection and designing of methodology.
• Assist in preparing reports and presentations on monitoring and ecological research for scientists, land managers, decision-makers, and the general public.
• Work in collaboration with the FL Marketing department and participate in the production of publications, including scientific, peer reviewed and non-technical papers on mitigation results, restoration, ecosystem management and other relevant topics.
• Assist in the coordination and implementation of external and internal research projects implemented through the DWP partnership with the University of Central Florida, and other universities and organizations.
• Ability to work in variable weather conditions, remote locations and physically demanding circumstances.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.  Must be able to safely operate an All-terrain Vehicle (ATV) or Utility All-Terrain Vehicle (UTV) when duties require use of such equipment and to comply with Florida Chapter All-terrain Vehicle Operating Guidelines at all times.
• Must have familiarity with the safe operation of equipment and vehicles, and must adhere to safety guidelines and precautions for said work.
• Must obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification upon hire.
• May serve as a support member of a TNC wildland fire crew when called upon, provided employee has documentation of appropriate required certifications.  Ability to meet minimum Florida TNC training and health requirements for wildland fires at the arduous level. Excellent physical condition. For Florida: 3 mile walk with a 45 pound pack with a time of 45 minutes or less. Must meet NWCG 310-1 training requirements for Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2).
