ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Field Restoration Coordinator is responsible for working on all aspects of The Nature Conservancy’s Coastal Ponds shellfish/eelgrass restoration project in southern Rhode Island. Field work for this project is often weather dependent and thus require a flexible schedule and often may require early start times and long days. Occasionally work in inclement weather, weekends and evenings will be required. Work is sometimes physically strenuous, including use of a boat, waders, heavy lifting, snorkel and Scuba gear.


1. Assist staff and/or other coordinator with field work such as posting underwater property lines, buoys and signs, shellfish stocking, shellfish surveys, shellfish collecting, eelgrass planting, eelgrass baseline surveys, diversity of other wildlife in the quadrats,  and environmental monitoring. 
2. Organize, train and lead a core group of Conservancy and other NGO volunteers that will assist in many shellfish restoration, environmental monitoring, and community outreach projects.
3. Conduct public outreach to create goodwill around the project, and to establish a Neighborhood Shellfish watch to ensure against poaching.
4. Measure and record shellfish growth and mortality data and update existing database.
5. Record water chemistry and other monitoring data in the quadrats.
6. Assist Conservancy staff in the cleaning and storage of all equipment at the end of the project.
7. Assist Conservancy staff in preparing preliminary data for next 6 month report to TNC/NOAA.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Associate’s degree in natural resources, environmental studies or equivalent combination of education and 6 months to 1 year of experience.
• Coordinating information from multiple sources into databases including data entry and report production.
• Completing tasks independently within assigned timeframes.
• Managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources.
• Performing administrative duties emphasizing detail-oriented and numerical tasks.
• Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.; Word, Excel, Web browsers).
• Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
• Excellent swimming abilities, SCUBA certified.
• Familiarity with the operation of small power tools, marine & fishery related equipment (GPS,Secchi, depth reorder)
• Experience with shellfish or eelgrass restoration preferred.
• Interest in protecting & restoring marine ecosystems
• Familiarity with statistical analyses.
ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
There are two 16 hour per week positions with a flexible schedule for approximately 16 weeks.
