Duke Energy is a monopoly utility in North Carolina, operating a fleet of dirty power plants and attacking progressive solar policies so they can increase their profits. Cleaner and cheaper options like solar could bring North Carolina clean air and water, cheaper electricity rates, and boost local jobs. Unfortunately, Duke Energy's long term plans still call for renewable energy like solar to account for a mere 4% of its energy portfolio 15 years from now.We are demanding that Duke provide clean and affordable electricity to ratepayers in North Carolina and kick off the solar energy revolution.

These two organizing positions will focus on working with impacted communities, both those living in the shadow of Duke’s coal plants and coal ash ponds and ratepayers who must finance dirty energy investments.  Division of labor between these two organizers will be determined on an ongoing basis. Much of this work will dovetail with statewide work happening around Duke’s regulatory and legislative agenda, but will also involve developing strategies that directly address issues affected these communities and building an engaged network of leaders and activists taking action on the campaign.
