The Field Coordinator is a senior seasonal position at the Berkshire Trails Office.  The position is active in ensuring that every aspect of the Berkshire Teen Trails program is running efficiently and effectively.

The program hosts volunteer teenagers; ages 15-19, on one to three-week backcountry trail work projects from June to August.  The crews build rock staircases, use Grip Hoist winch mechanisms, cut new trail, install drainage (usually rock water bars), harden muddy areas, and improve side-hilled sections.  As important as it is that we install world-class trail work on our trails, it is more important that the teenagers leave the program feeling empowered from the great experience they shared together.

The Field Coordinator is a dynamic leadership position, and duties include scouting work projects, instructing Leave No Trace Trainer Courses, visiting crews in the field, ensuring morale is high and work is solid, maintaining tools and gear, planning meals and purchasing food, logistics, training Crew Leaders, and in the shoulder seasons taking inventory of and ordering gear, cleaning tools and gear, as well as attending meetings and promoting the program locally.  This position will potentially lead trail crews in addition to the above responsibilities.  When Coordinator is leading in the field, they are compensated with an hourly wage at 50+ hours/week. In the shoulder seasons and weeks in the office Coordinator is compensated with an hourly wage at 40 hours/week.

This leadership position requires that applicants have leadership experience in backcountry field programming, preferably on trail crew.  This is a seasonal, non-exempt, hourly position reporting to the AMC Regional Trails Coordinator and runs from May to September 30, 2012.  There is potential for a longer season for the right candidate.
