Description

This project is looking for students and researchers interested in working with tropical birds between June and mid-December, 2012. The research project requires a small field crew from June to August and a larger field crew from August to December. Primary activities include nest searching and monitoring as well as mist-netting and banding, collection of samples from captured birds, vegetation plots, field recordings, metabolic measurements, and playback experiments. There is also occasional data entry and administrative duties in the evenings. This project is most appropriate for those pursuing a career in ecology or behaviour and who have previous field experience working in remote locations. There are often opportunities for students to develop thesis projects, and as such students are strongly encouraged to apply. The application deadline for field assistant positions is the 30 April or 10 May - dependent on whether applying for summer or autumn (fall) portion of the project.

Volunteer field assistants receive free accommodation, food, and (local) transportation to and from the field sites.

Please visit the Volunteer Latin America website to find out how to request further information on this and other similar opportunities.
