A field assistant is sought to work as part of a doctoral study researching the conservation biology of the Critically Endangered St Helena plover, Charadrius sanctaehelenae. The St Helena plover is restricted to the island of St Helena in the South Atlantic where it is the last survivor of a varied endemic avifauna. The island is extremely isolated and is accessed only by ship. Previous experience working with birds is strongly preferred, as is a passion for conservation. The successful candidate will be working alone after a short training period and therefore the ability to manage their time and work independently is essential. A full drivers licence is required.
Applications are accepted at any time, this post would be for three to four months starting in mid July 2009. All on island expenses will be covered, the successful candidate will be expected to make a contribution to cost of travelling to the island.
