Animals can’t speak for themselves. We are looking for someone who can speak for them: an outgoing, verbally persuasive person who can serve as a Campaign Coordinator to stay abreast of animal-related issues and problems, develop strategies to help animals by recruiting the participation of many people from many different communities, age ranges, genders and traditions.
The employer is the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations - an umbrella body representing animal interest groups from across the country, whose focus ranges across many issues such as conditions in zoos, in dairies; conditions of street animals, working animals, wildlife, ocean animals and fish; poaching, abandonment, cruelty-prevention, laws, legislation, compassion education and animal rights.
The Campaign Coordinator will be responsible to learn some of the key issues and hardships faced by animals, and help develop strategies for helping them, using laws, legislation, media, and most importantly, public opinion. We are searching for a coordinator whose job is to strengthen the work of others in their ability to help animals immediately, and permanently.
The successful applicant must have some basic abilities to write a simple press release. He or she must be fluent in both Hindi and English, and comfortable with making multiple phone calls and using email at many intervals throughout an average day.
Good written and verbal communication skills are also essential.
Here’s who we’re looking for: • You are a “people person”, and can motivate, work with and support activists all over India. • You are calm, and able to take adversity with resilience and have a positive, optimistic outlook. • You are self driven and enjoy the challenge of solving unforeseen problems. • You like to work in a team but you are also able to manage your time effectively even when working independently. • You have a minimum of 5 years work experience after finishing education.
If you were working for us, here are some of the things you would have done last week: • Set up meetings with government officers to discuss legislation • Prepared a note to submit to authorities to amend regulation • Spoken to activists in a city in India encouraging them to support events • Sent a mailing to existing stakeholders to ask for participation and inform of news and updates • Traveled to a city to support an event for your campaign • Set up a training event for volunteers and activists • Prepared content for the FIAPO website • Prepared content and designed leaflets to spread awareness on the abuse of animals • Undertaken a press release on animal issues
Here are some other things you might do: • Participate in team meetings and provide inputs to other colleagues on their respective campaigns. • Anchor a response centre case • Write a FIAPO newsletter article on progress of the campaign
Experience is important.
You must have the ability to travel frequently and you must have no constraints on you with regard to traveling alone.
Your geographic base need not be urban but it is preferred.
You must be completely familiar with how to research on the web.
