USGBC is seeking a public policy professional with significant experience in energy and environmental policy to assist in research and analysis of federal public policy that advances green building and promotes the market transformation to a sustainable built environment.

As a member of the Advocacy and Policy Department, the Federal Policy Analyst will report to the Director of Advocacy and Public Policy. The candidate will handle multiple responsibilities related to evaluating, researching and analyzing federal policy. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about energy and environmental policy, politically savvy, detail-oriented and demonstrate exemplary writing and communication skills.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Review, research and evaluate federal policy to support and guide USGBC’s advocacy efforts;
  • Perform legislative analysis, draft legislative proposals and congressional testimony, and provide comments on proposed and pending green building-related legislation to support and advance USGBC’s presence on Capitol Hill;
  • Draft policy papers, fact sheets, letters, legislative summaries, and other written materials to advance USGBC’s federal advocacy work;
  • Coordinate with Manager of Federal Advocacy to track federal legislation and monitor Congressional hearings, markups, and developments on the House/Senate floors;
  • Advance and support USGBC’s relationships with like-minded organizations and coalitions to promote and develop sound green building, energy and related policies.
  • Identify opportunities to coordinate green building policies at the federal and state/local levels.
  • Assist in filing federal lobbying disclosure documents.
  • Provide event support on department-initiated policy events as well as other departmental duties, as needed.

RELATED ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES (optional but preferred)

  • Education & Training Requirements/Preferences
    • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in relevant field or law degree preferred
  • Experience Requirements
    • Minimum 3 years of working experience with federal energy, environmental or real estate policy or law in government, a government relations firm or law firm, trade association, public interest group or similar organization.
  • Other Required Skills & Qualifications
    • Significant experience in policy analysis, research and evaluation.
    • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
    • Strong political instincts and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to handle multiple concurrent responsibilities.
    • Ability to adapt and thrive in a faced-paced environment.
    • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work collaboratively in a team environment.
