Description

We have a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our Communications Programme and help deliver the Farming Futures project on a 12 month contract.  Farming Futures is one of Forum for the Future’s major projects and is designed to inspire and inform farmers and land managers about climate change and encourage adaptation and mitigation behaviour change.  This contract offers the opportunity to be at the centre of one of the UK's leading sustainable development organisations and the role is ideal for someone looking to develop a career in communications and sustainability, particularly in the farming and land based sector.
 
Duties include: 

  • Assisting in delivering the Farming Futures strategy and business plan
  • Providing administrative support, including: taking minutes and coordinating meetings, events management, ensuring stocks of printed material are up to date, preparing and proof-reading reports, fact sheets, case studies and press releases
  • Assisting with the financial management of the project.  Tasks include: keeping financial records of project spend on a day to day basis, invoicing and helping to draft reports
  • Acting as a point of contact for project partners, enquirers, press and media – general external enquiries to the Farming Futures project
  • Attending and helping to coordinate events with the Project Officers or alongside other Project partners
  • Helping to raise the profile of the project in sector and national media. This will include drafting press releases and supporting the Project Officers in liaising with partnership communications contacts
  • Contact management: regional contacts within partner organisations and for use in event organisations
  • Web editing: Assisting with updating the website (www.farmingfutures.org.uk) and drafting website copy
     

Person specification: 
 

  • Enthusiastic about being part of a busy office
  • Proactive and able to take the initiative when necessary
  • Efficient and able to multi-task and prioritise
  • An interest in Sustainable Development is desirable
  • Some experience and knowledge relating to the farming sector (ideally) and climate change
  • Demonstrable relevant experience in :
    ·  Office skills and administration, including financial management
    · Communications project management
    · Events management 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with external parties
  • Good knowledge of IT packages (including MS Word, Excel & Powerpoint); adept at learning new software packages and comfortable using the internet for research and communication
  • A strong team player, who is enthusiastic about contributing to the overall development of Forum for the Future and Farming Futures
