Fixed-term for 1 year (until March 2020), full-time post based at Tyland Barn, Maidstone Closing Date: Friday 5th April 2019 Interview Date: Monday 15th April Salary Range: £27,548 Kent Wildlife Trust is the leading wildlife charity for Kent and Medway, supported by its members and staffed by committed professionals. Nature is in trouble and it needs our help. Kent Wildlife Trust has a plan to aid nature’s recovery and we encourage people to join us to make a difference. Kent Wildlife Trust is working in partnership with Southern Water to roll out the farmer cluster approach in the River Beult catchment. Informed by water quality data, the Farmer Cluster Officer will be tasked to engage with farmers and landowners in targeted areas of the catchment, to raise awareness and improve understanding and acceptance of diffuse pollution from agriculture and its impact on water quality and the wider water environment. Once established, the post-holder will facilitate meetings of the farmer clusters, undertake one to one farm visits and deliver a programme of training events to promote resource protection and a reduction in diffuse water pollution from agriculture, with a focus on pesticides, nutrients and soil run-off/sediment loading in order to encourage behavioural change amongst those engaged. You will ideally have experience of the agricultural sector and a sound understanding of lowland farming systems. You will be a natural communicator who can clearly articulate key messages to farmers and landowners with the ability to develop and maintain trusted working relationships that form the foundation from which demonstrable improvements within the catchment can then flow.
