The RSPCA’s farm animals department wishes to recruit two people with a thorough knowledge of livestock husbandry systems to monitor and provide technical advice to farmers, hauliers and abattoirs approved under the Society’s Freedom Food farm animal welfare assurance scheme.

The ideal candidates will live in 1) Central East Anglia or 2) the Inverness area with easy access to the main road links.

The successful candidate will be required to travel largely alone throughout the counties in this area and on occasion, spend short periods working in other areas of the UK and possibly Continental Europe.

Essential requirements are: excellent interpersonal skills, a genuine commitment to farm animal welfare, together with a thorough knowledge and practical experience of a variety of livestock husbandry systems, including aquaculture for the Scottish post. Applicants should hold a minimum qualification of HND in agriculture/aquaculture, or equivalent knowledge and experience. They should have experience of farm visiting, and have the ability to produce clear detailed reports of site visits. The ideal candidate will also have experience either with farm assurance schemes or in the provision of technical advice to livestock farmers. Direct experience and training in auditing of standards on-farm would be a distinct advantage.

Interviews should be held on: 1st July for the Scottish post, 30th June or 7th July for the East Anglia post.
